Occidental Beats #16 Baseball Team 9-4

Shane Wolf singled and doubled

Los Angeles, Calif. -- The 16th-ranked baseball team (1-2) lost its second straight game Tuesday, falling 9-4 at Occidental (5-1). Junior Shane Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) led Ithaca with two hits and two RBI's.

Wolf, who is batting .500 on the season, doubled in the first scoring junior outfielder Matt Samela (Staples/Westport, Conn.). Samela had stolen second and advanced to third on a throwing error before Wolf drove him home. In the fifth, a sacrifice fly by Wolf scored senior outfielder Jeremy Peters (Thomas R. Proctor/Utica) and gave the Bombers a 4-2 lead. Peters reached base by hitting his second double of the season to lead off the inning.

Junior shortstop Josh Smith (Pulaski/Pulaski) recorded his 10th home run of his career when he hit a two-run blast in the top of the fourth. Ferguson, who went 3-4, scored on the play. Ferguson is batting .500 on the season and is tied with Peters with a team-high five runs.

Senior Matt Dorn (Ithaca/Ithaca) entered the game in the fifth and went 3.2 innings, striking out two and allowing only two hits.

The Bombers play Chapman in Orange Calif., Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
